Whenever Regine is busy, it’s as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow that her fans are busy too.    And entertainment reporters have stories to print.

abante-tonite

‘TILL I MET YOU’ TO REACH P100-M MARK

WHEN it rains, it pours. That holds true to GMA7 and Viva Films,  represented by Veronique del Rosario–Ilagan (for dad, Vic del Rosario) and Annette Gozon–Abrogar, which held a thanksgiving party for the press for the success of the movie, Till I met You, starring Robin Padilla and Regine Velasquez.

Still showing in 100 theaters nationwide, Till I Met You  is expected to reach the P100-million mark till the last showing day.  So, what’s up?  GMA7 vows to continue making  high quality films in the coming years—expect 2007 to be a banner year for GMA Films, and of course, for GMA7 and QTV11 to reign supreme in all ratings surveys.

Meanwhile, Robin will be doing his next project for GMA, an Asian  telenovela soon. It is an action-comedy-romance and adventure with Angel Locsin as the local filmdom’s Bad Boy’s love interest.

Not bad, not bad indeed.  :D

And that 40M earning is not padded, mind you.  I’m also hoping it could reach the 100M mark.  Fighting!

Oh, puhlease.  Stop that courting courting chuva already.  It’s not really good for the morals of everybody.  Honestly!  So Regine and Robin are gonna have another movie next year?  As much as I like their tandem, isn’t it too early for another team-up?    But if the concept is nice and refreshing, well, okay then.

Oh, adiks out there, it seems Regine is planning another major concert?  But in a hotel?  Great! (Sarcastic here, hehe)  The ticket prices will surely be expensive.  Does Regine really want to make us fans paupers in the future?

Anyway, the Songbird really has a big heart inside her.  She readily agrees and even offers her singing services to those who needs it.  And for a great purpose.  Uh, can she sing for my birthday?  Well, just hoping, hahaha.  It’s not really a significant wish, hehe.

So, Regines itenerary should be including the following;

- Countless mall shows (still) for the promo of TIMY movie and soundtrack (click this for the list of venues and dates)

- A fundraising concert for Robin’s foundation in Zirkoh on December 1 (I’m sure tix for this show is 1K a pop)

- Another (major) concert next year

- A project with Viva (hmm, wuz this? Yung movie na di matuloy-tuloy?)

Haay, I need to save money constantly.

Journal

DALAWA ang ending ng Till I Met You.

This article is totally misleading.  Sure, there were two endings, (but Regine’s character, Luisa, never ended up with Eddie Garcia’s character, Don Manuel [I prefer baby Manuel, hahaha]) but the first is like a prelude to the second, or sumthin like that.  Has this writer seen the movie?  Or if he has, did he understood, honestly?

Hello.  (It seems this this the first time I said hello in all of my posts, hahaha)

Anyway, Aria Productions has announced that the “Twenty” concert of Regine, which was just held last weekend, is going to be shown, already, over GMA-7 this Sunday!  Whoa! And weeeeeee.

Whoa because everyone must have asked why so sudden.  I mean, it was just 96 hours fresh and it’s gonna be seen on national television already?  Hmm, wuzgoinon?

Anyway, weeeeeeeeeee.  I was planning to watch it again if there was gonna be a repeat, but since it’s gonna be televised, then it’s better for all the fans, those who’ve watched and those who didn’t get the chance to watch.  I really, really wanna watch it again and my hopes has been answered.  Thanks to Regine’s production and GMA!  Yes!!

So kids, don’t forget.  Twenty will be shown on Sunday, October 22, 2006, after Da De Di Do Du!

Okay, let’s proceed to the news articles. :D

Regine Gives Comedy All That She’s Got
by Nestor Torre / inq7.net

VIEWING Mark Reyes’ “Till I Met You,” the new Robin Padilla-Regine Velasquez starrer, is like watching two very different movies in one. The film’s first half is zany and feisty, and focuses on the “hate you” aspect of the two
lead characters’ relationship, while the second radically shifts gears to their “love you” denouement. It’s a jarring and dissonant shift, to say the least.

This is what happens when filmmakers conceptualize projects that aim to be all things to all types of viewers. As a result, considerations like unity and consistency of styles and intentions fly out of the window.  It’s a good thing that Regine is able to manage the shift with relative aplomb-a tribute to her versatility as a performer.

Why do Robin and Regine hate each other so much at film’s start? It turns out that Robin’s surrogate dad, hacendero Eddie Garcia, is about to marry “sosyal” Regine, but Robin smells a rotten fish and believes that Eddie’s fiancée is marrying him for his money.

Regine is scared that Robin is about to blow her cover, so she retaliates by lashing out at him and beating him in several impromptu contests, like racing, singing-and getting drunk.  It’s during this last competition that Regine comes up with the movie’s best scene: When her character gets soused, she ceases to behave and talk in a sosyal manner, and reverts to the raucous lush she really is.

The scene is deliciously funny because Regine gives it everything she’s got-complete with a great, show-stopping burp in the end-and doesn’t care if she looks silly and slatternly in the process.

Unfortunately, Robin doesn’t get similarly high marks. He was able to rein in his slapstick and gimmicky tendencies in “La Visa Loca,” but they’re back in full force in his current starrer.

To make things worse, he’s surrounded with similarly slapstick-y supporting actors who add to the movie’s decibel level, milking the story’s comic situation for all the cheap laughs they’re worth.

It’s a good thing that less hysterical performers are on hand to balance the stylistic equation. As a result, despite the movie’s low or shrill moments, viewing it is a generally positive experience.

The film’s first half is particularly eventful and diverting. But the production has a rough time making the radical transition from “funny” to “serious,” and awkward moments accumulate.

Things get even dodgier when the two leads finally admit to their “forbidden” love for one another, Eddie becomes aware of it, Regine gives up her dream of living a wealthy life, and Robin is conflicted due to his
love for both his surrogate dad and his unintended intended.

All this proves to be too sticky a mess to efficiently sort out, so the film’s denouement is decidedly dense. Despite this muggy conclusion, however, the movie’s score sheet still ends up with enough plus points to make it a positive viewing experience.

Wow, it’s rare that I read something positive about Regine from this writer.  He always used to lash at Regine’s everything.  From her songs, her way of singing, her clothes, her reactions to rumors (violent or non-violent), her movies, etc, etc.  Well, it’s nice to know that he’s had a change of heart.  Or did he really?  Or maybe this is just a good example of a writer being paid for a good and favorable review?  Hmmm, just wondering.

Regine, weird sa concert
abante-tonite

You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Isn’t she just divine?  Can anyone name a singer, local or international, who can do just what Regine does all the time?  Sing with all her might and still hit the highest note effortlessly even if she croaks when she speaks?  Amazing, isn’t she?  Janno’s description of her is so true.  He said, “Regine’s worst is still the best.”  Take that!  You freakin’ detractors! Pfftt.

Of course, since it’s the first week of showing of the film, “Till I Met You”, news articles abound.  Sometimes, I’m just too lazy to post them here daily.

Anyway, here are the news stories that are circulated around by broadsheets and tabloids around the country from Oct. 13 to 16, 2006.

True hype
A LITTLE BIT by : Remy Umerez

TILL I Met You” had a VIP screening at the Podium with the cast of the movie headed by Robin Padilla and Regine Velasquez in attendance. Is all the hype about the so-called “Movie Event of the Year” true?

Wonderfully, they all are. In the tradition of Viva and GMA’s standard of glossy filmmaking (it is a co-production between the two companies), the movie is both entertaining and touching as the drama unfolds midway. Robin is at his handsome and  masculine best while Regine is simply radiant in those drop-dead gorgeous attires she wore.

‘Till I Met You’, sinira ang box-office record ng lahat ng GMA movies!
RATED A Ni Aster Amoyo / Ang Pilipino STAR Ngayon 10/13/2006

Regine on heartaches and ‘20’
By: Danny Vibas / Content provided by: The Manila Times

Regine Velasquez celebrates her 20th year in show biz this October and November with a two-night concert on October 13 and 14 at the Araneta Coliseum and a much-awaited movie with Robin Padilla slated to be shown next month.

And how is the Songbird of Asia taking her 20th year in show biz as a singer, actress, TV host and concert and record producer?

Joyfully, gratefully, meditatively—and with some pains and hurts on the side.

Sinners, saints and lovers
By Rito Asilo / Inquirer 10/13/2006

D: Mark Reyes
S: Robin Padilla, Regine Velasquez, Eddie Garcia

TRUST Mark Reyes to come up with a visually succulent, meticulously photographed feature, with toe-tapping musical numbers to boot. But, while the film is better than his recent five-hanky drama (the shallow and dragging “Eternity”), his latest production doesn’t really offer a new perspective to the boy-meets-girl formula:

Robin (who’s back in his crowd-pleasing, over-the-top acting shtick) plays Gabriel, who’s out to expose Luisa (Regine Velasquez), a mysterious grifter who intends to marry his aging, affluent benefactor, Señor Manuel (Eddie Garcia), a widower for 30 years, so she can live a life of comfort and opportunity — and to escape a sketchy past.

Pilipino Star Ngayon
May Kilig Pa Rin

The articles above just proves that Till I Met You is a certified box office hit.  Regine proves once again that she’s the most bankable star in the industry.

And “Twenty”?  I was there on the first night (it should have been both nights hadn’t it been for my sister who confiscated my Oct 14 tickets for herself) and I was truly overwhelmed (again) with her talent.  She’s truly one in a zillion.  Nobody can can stand up next to her in terms of talent and heart.  My sis also told me that the second night was a blast.  She used to “okray” Regine til I cry but she just admitted that she’s also a fan ever since forever and that she was just teasing me (I’m kinda soft and sensitive when it comes to anyone badmouthing Regine).  She boasts that the second night maybe better than the first because there were more emotions and excitement the whole night and even though Regine was croaking when she speaks, her voice is still unfaltering.  Can anyone beat that?

Ah, her house is worth 10M?  Well, she’s earned that so she deserves an abode as expensive as that.

Regine, Aja aja Fighting! :D

Hehehe.

I had one of the most enjoyable night of my life just earlier. (It’s 2am now).  And the review/praise I’m posting below is as kikay as I can get.  I wanted to post a more serious one, but that wouldn’t be me, hehehe.  And it would take a long time for me to finish it.  So I decided to post how I usually talk, hehehe.  Hope you enjoy!

Regine Velasquez’ 20 concert (A kikay report)

Waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh, ang ganda! Sobra!  To the highest Level lahat ng kanta! Yung mga gowns naman, to the most daring!

May tatlong gay impersonators at the start na paniwalang paniwala ako na si Regine yung nasa gitna. Tapos nahuli ng cue sa lipsync, hahaha. Tapos bigla lumabas si Regine from below the stage, yu kno, elevation ang dating!

Loved the music vidz. Reason Enough remix at yung HOT STUFF / Pussycat Dolls number. Ang landi ni Regine with both, eeeeeeeeeee. Hahaha.

Go Ate!!!

Tapos nagkamali siya ng umpisa sa Pangako.
“Ba-bakit ba?
Hahahaha.

The best for me yung “Bakit Ako Mahihiya”. Mommy V was crying on the monitor na malaki. Regine was also teary-eyed, no, actually, naiyak talaga siya, when she introduced the song. Dedicated daw sa parents nya. Huhuhuhu.Second best yung encore! Yung hotsuff/pussycat nga, with the ever-seductive giling-giling ng lola! Ay! Then yung parting medley nya of “Greatest Love Of All” at “I Believe” with the luhod luhod thanks to the LORD. Lab ya Regine!!! The best lahat! Hehehe. Maski yung dance number ni Marky, Mark at Miggy, maganda. Kasi nga they danced to the tune of Reason Enough/You Made Me Stronger remix. And I also love the compiled videos of Regine kissing scenes. From Cristopher to Aga. Siningle out pa yung first stage kiss nya with Ariel, sabay sabi niya na “Lalo tuloy akong naiiyak, huhuhu.” Naiiyak na kasi siya before that part. She had a merry time teasing the audience. Sobrang kagat naman kami, hehehe.

There was another video compilation of Regine crying scenes. Chonang chona, hahaha.

Dennis, Jed, Gabby, Mark, Mark (Shamrock), Eric sang the duets with her. It was a great number. Ang galing nilang lahat. Dennis is improving.

And Regine’s impromptu spiels were really funny. When Mang Gerry was walking at the front, sabi niya, “Mang Gerry, saan ka pupunta?” LOLZ. then when she introduced Gerard Salonga, she said Hi to him as soon as she finished her intro. Kaso di napansin ni Gerard, so nagpapansin ang lola. Sinutsutan ba naman si Gerard, hahaha. Ang kikay talaga. Then when her Dadalhin number with Cesar Aguas finished, the large monitor at the back showed Cesar sporting a longer hair.

But to sum it all up, the song numbers were all fantastic. Spectacular! Regine didn’t falter, not even on a single note. Everything was perfect, even with the wrong lyrics on the side. Of course, she’s forgiven for that. It even adds enjoyment, coz she laughed at herself.

And her appearance? Direk Louie said it best and I agree a hundred percent. She looked like a goddess. A very sexy, seductive goddess.

Ayun!  Honestly, this concert is the best that I’ve seen of her. But you can compare 20 with R2K. Parehong maganda at magaling!

Regine, Happy Anniversary! All the best!

News, news, news!!!  When will this end?    Not that I’m complaining, hehe.  Keep it coming!

The Song Bird on love and Mr. Right

Regine celebrates her two decades in show business this October and she starts the celebration in a big way, with this highly anticipated second team up with Robin Padilla.

“We were together for almost a month and I had a great time working with him again and I am happy to know him better,” says Velasquez. “He thought that I was a snobbish person before because after each shoot, I would go straight home to Bulacan. What he failed to realize was na-shy ako because of him being the Robin Padilla. Imagine! Robin Padilla was my screen partner!”

Rumors are spreading that Padilla proposed during the filming. Regine clarifies, “We were talking about so many topics and then unexpectedly, he asked me what I thought of the Muslim’s culture of marrying several women. I answered him quite frankly that I will not be comfortable with such a setup because if I do get married, I want it na ako lang. He was taken aback by my answer so what he was planning to ask me that time, he didn’t muster enough courage to continue,” answers Regine.

“I don’t think I can share my man with someone else. I am not trying to be a hypocrite about this. I do not want people to take it all wrong that I am judging people who are in situations wherein her partner has other partners. This is just my belief as a person, as a woman. I do not see myself going through one relationship after another just for the heck of it. Parang nakakahinayang kasi. I do not believe doon sa collect and collect then select. It is as if you already gave yourself to so many men. You might say that it is only through previous relationships that you get to learn about love and life but for me, I would rather wait and be with that one right person. However, if I do have one chance of happiness and I know that I have that choice, it is better for me to just wait for him, I don’t mind waiting for as long as I’m sure he is the one,” Regine explains.

The actress believes one knows the Right One by instinct, “gut feel.” “You just know. All of us have that. I think its God’s gift to us. We should listen to our gut feel, to that inner voice in you’re heart, and you must admit that at all times, that voice or your gut is saying what is right. I will know if it is him. There is this weird vibe, ‘yun parang ma-a-adik ka when you finally meet,’’ she ends with a laugh.

To end all the pesky talks of her being linked to this or that married man, Regine reveals she has a four-year-old relationship with a ‘mystery man’ and, according to her, she has been giving clues about her “boyfriend,” but it seems that the press refuses to believe.

“Seriously speaking, I am in a relationship and I’m very happy. I hope you understand why I cannot reveal him just yet. You all know my story. You know how public my life has become. And the very little privacy that I have, I want to treasure it and just keep it. What is important is that I am happy. I am in love. I am committed. Hindi na virgin ang lola niyo, Matagal na!” concludes Velasquez with a guffaw.

So how does this mystery man make her happy? “As a human being, I’m very easy to please and I’m such a mababaw person. In my career as a woman, daughter and as a sister, I made sure that I was able to do what I must do. I am very grateful that I made most of my dreams into realities. In a way, I am already complete. When he arrived in my life, he did not complete me for I feel complete already. He was not my missing piece. He makes my life very colorful. We do not have a perfect relationship. We have our good days and bad days. I just feel really good that he is around for me to share my successes.”

“I have to admit to myself that it is not easy to become an artista and I want to spare him from all the intrigues and all the relentless questioning and doubting. For the past 20 years, all I ever think about are the people, my audience, and my fans. Do not get me wrong, but I’m truly grateful to them. Kaya lang now, I think it’s just fair that I think of myself muna. I know that you guys understand and you know that one of these days, I will let him know all of you. Honestly, he wants to go public, but I explained to him why I want to keep him for myself muna for now,” concludes Regine.

Till I Met You opens nationwide in major theaters starting Oct. 11.

Ay!  Same as the earlier articles.  Anyway, goodluck to your lovelife Regine.  May “he” be the one. :D

Regine celebrates 20 years in show biz

By Nini Valera / Inquirer 10/12/2006

REGINE Velasquez has worked non-stop for the past 20 years, enduring trends and time and coming to terms with life.

If there were regrets, Regine said she looks at them as part of learning.

In the face of a whirlwind of activities for her movie with Robin Padilla, GMA Films’ “Till I Met You,” Regine called a press conference for her concert “RV 20” on the week typhoon Milenyo wrought its fury on the country.

“Not everybody has reached this stage,” Regine told Inquirer Entertainment, referring to her 20th year in the business. “At first, I didn’t want to celebrate it, but on second thought, I decided to hold this concert. It’s an event, anyway. So why not celebrate?”

But a celebration for something as momentous as 20 years in the business was hard for Regine to do. For the fourth time, she had to produce a concert herself.

“It’s sad,” she said. “The state of the (entertainment) industry has made it so difficult for concerts to be mounted. The artists have to do it themselves. It’s difficult to look for sponsors. Thank God, none of my productions have flopped.”

Regine pulled out all the stops in mounting this concert, produced to the tune of P10 million. The Araneta Coliseum, where it will be staged on Oct. 13 and 14 will be transformed into a Roman Coliseum, with a grand staircase from the center stage to the upper box gallery where Regine will make her grand entrance.

To produce the show, she has reunited with longtime mentor Ronnie Henares, whom she called “my second father.”

Ronnie discovered Regine when she guested on “Penthouse Live” 20 years ago. Then named Chona Velasquez, Regine was plucked from obscurity by Ronnie, who for 15 years, guided her career and molded her into an artist. He also gave her the name Regine.

“There are few regrets in my life,” she admitted. “I never got to attend a high school prom or ball. I have not finished college, but I’m sure I can go back to school if I want to.

“There was also a time that I imagined myself to be a teacher. But that time is now gone. I can’t imagine myself anymore as anything else but a singer.”

At a young age, Regine used her singing talent to support her family.

“My father (Mang Gerry) really, really worked hard, but he couldn’t make ends meet,” she recalled. “He has scoliosis, and he worked in construction. My brother and sisters might not remember this, but we had a very hard time. I saw the desperation on my parents’ faces. I knew I could do something to help out. I knew I could sing.

“I feel so blessed that I was able to do this for my family. I am happy that God chose me to be the one to help my family. I enjoy singing, so why not use it to help my family? Why not use this gift?”

For 20 years, Regine has cultivated this gift of song. Forays into acting were few and far between.

“I knew my limitations,” she said. “I can’t be a good dramatic actress. So I deliberately chose roles that were a little bit of drama and comedy. But I like to make movies. Like my singing, acting created opportunities for me.”

But she chooses to sing more than anything else.

“It’s what I do best,” she said.

Weee, happy anniversary, Chona. :D   Personally, Regine has been my favorite, unconsciously,  ever since I was in high school.  and it only went full fledged in 2000, just during her R2K concert. It’s been six years.  Haaayyy…

‘RV 20’
